Guest Speaker Bio:

Brian T. Leary aligned with partner Timothy King to found CPEX in 2008. In his role as Managing Partner, Mr. Leary co-heads the firm’s business line divisions and business development. He has hired, trained and managed several hundred people over the course of his career. Over the past ten years, Mr. Leary has arranged for the sale of 165 properties in the New York market. These properties total 5.2 million square feet of existing buildings and 7.2 million square feet of buildable space, for a total aggregate sales value in excess of $1 billion. With his background in real estate and construction, Mr. Leary brings twenty years of management, operations and sales experience to CPEX’s Executive Team.

Prior to CPEX, Mr. Leary spent five years (2002–2008) at Massey Knakal Realty Services (MKRS), a commercial investment sales firm focused on servicing the New York City market. As Managing Partner of the Brooklyn and Staten Island branches, Mr. Leary had an integral role in expanding MKRS’s presence from Manhattan into the outer boroughs. He successfully implemented systems to increase efficiency and productivity, and built an operations and sales team that completed $1.4 billion in aggregate sales during his tenure.

In 2000, Mr. Leary ventured on his own to form Millenia Realty Services, and for two years (2000–2002) he provided real estate and construction services to smaller companies in New York City. This endeavor followed his previous success at The Bear Stearns Companies (BSC), where he spent eight years (1992-2000) as a vice president in their Real Estate and Office Services Department. Centralized in New York, his department acquired, developed, and managed space for all domestic and interna¬tional offices occupied by the company. While at BSC, Mr. Leary was a member of a project team that acquired, planned, and developed 1.2 million square feet of Class A office space for BSC’s new world headquarters located in New York City. Mr. Leary was also a member of the project team that acquired and developed a 65 acre technology campus, and built three new office buildings in Whippany, New Jersey. Mr. Leary began his fulltime career in 1989, and for three years (1989–1992) he was a managing partner of a small, Brooklyn-based construction and landscaping business servicing New York City’s five boroughs. He also worked on various large scale construction projects throughout the tri-state area.

Mr. Leary graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management. He also has a Graduate Diploma in Construction Management from New York University. Mr. Leary speaks publicly for programs devoted to the real estate market and has authored numerous articles for trade publications. He currently resides in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park neighborhood.
