Guest Speaker: Mary Lou Quinlan, author, actor, speaker and advocate for women.
Her career as an executive began at Avon Products where she rose to director of advertising, then moved to the advertising industry where she became the first female CEO of ad agency N.W Ayer & Partners. As an entrepreneur she founded her own women’s marketing company, Just Ask a Woman, advising major brands, including Procter & Gamble, Wells Fargo and General Motors among others.
Mary Lou is the author of four books, including What She’s Not Telling You, Time Off for Good Behavior, and Just Ask a Woman. Her latest, The God Box, a memoir of her mother, quickly became a New York Times bestseller and inspired another career evolution. Based on the book, she co-wrote a one woman play which she has performed for the past five years around the US, at the ’14 Edinburgh Fringe, at the Irish Repertory Theatre, the Irish Arts Center and Glucksman Ireland House. In 2016, she took the show to 10 theaters in Ireland with all proceeds donated to local hospice programs.
She’s written for Real Simple, O, the Oprah magazine, MORE and the Irish Times, was a correspondent on The CBS EARLY Show and co-starred on the Simon-Cowell produced ABC series “American Inventor.”
She was named one of the Power 50 Women by Irish American Magazine in 2016, as well as included in their Business 100.
She lives in NYC and Bucks County, PA with her husband Joe Quinlan. And she’s the proud great-great-granddaughter of Mary Buckly of Cork, Thomas Cosgrove of Tipperary and Henry Boles of Northern Ireland.
She’s currently at work new solo show about women’s careers called “Work” to be staged this spring.
