IBO December 2017 Business Breakfast

Guest Speaker: Kim Haughton - Multi-Award Winning Irish Photographer

Kim Haughton completed her MA at London University of the Arts.  She was named as an Irish photographer to watch in 2015 by TIME magazine who described her work as 'at once sparse and textured'.  She spent the early part of her career as a photojournalist covering post conflict humanitarian issues around the globe.  Her work has been exhibited in London, New York, Oslo and Dublin and her images have appeared in publications worldwide including The Financial Times, Der Spiegel and Vanity Fair.  In 2017, she published her first book entitled Portrait of a Century, a visual time capsule of one hundred images of people who are threaded together through a shared language, culture and nationhood.  The accompanying exhibition was launched at Collins Barracks, Dublin in April 2017 by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins who commented that “Kim’s photographs struck me as a celebration of what I think may be one of the more eclectic aspects of Ireland's great wealth, the diversity of its people and the range of their backgrounds and contributions.  The images I saw constitute a powerful evocation of the bounty of ideas and achievements and vulnerabilities and commitments of an intellectual and political, artistic or sporting kind that have shaped our collective destiny through ten decades”.  Kim currently works as a staff photographer at the United Nations Secretariat in New York City.
